Harken is introducing the new Deckvest VITO AFS lifejacket, manufactured by Spinlock. The device is an evolution of the model already used in major offshore races, including the Volvo Ocean Race, and features the Advanced Flotation System (AFS), designed to improve the jacket's performance in the water.

The AFS uses a 3D air chamber that repositions buoyancy where it is most effective. According to the manufacturer, this results in faster body rotation, a higher freeboard (the distance between the wearer's mouth and the water surface) and greater overall stability. The low-profile design of the inflated jacket allows more freedom of movement both in and out of the water, which matters during rescue and self-rescue situations.

The jacket comes standard with the Harness Release System (HRS), a quick-release mechanism that allows the wearer to disconnect from the jackline in an emergency. Inflation is handled by a Hammar hydrostatic system, which activates at approximately 10 cm of water immersion. This reduces the risk of accidental inflation caused by heavy rain or spray.

For visibility, the Deckvest VITO AFS uses a combination of high-visibility colours (Hi-Vis Pink and Hi-Vis Yellow) that, according to studies cited by the manufacturer, improve detectability at distance in adverse weather.

The lifejacket is aimed at offshore sailors and ocean racers, as well as anyone sailing for extended periods in demanding conditions.
