The official opening of the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans 2021

The Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo village today hosted the official opening ceremony of the continental event, with Ildefonso de la Campa, Xacobeo Director of Administration, Telmo Martín, Mayor of Sanxenxo, Daniel Arosa, Social Services, Sports and Youth Councillor for the Sanxenxo Town Hall, and Pedro Campos, President of the host club.
 
Two races are programmed for Day 1 (on Tuesday) starting at 12:00 h.

After a year's delay due to the pandemic, the most long-awaited event in the Sanxenxo calendar has finally arrived. The Xacobeo 6mR Europeans 2021 was officially opened on Monday with thirty teams getting ready for racing to commence on Tuesday. Over the weekend, the fleet came face to face in the Rey Juan Carlos I El Corte Inglés Master Regatta, and this week promises to be the most competitive edition of the event to date, both in the Classics and the Open divisions.
 
Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, and Canada are the eleven countries that will be represented on the racecourse in the Ria de Pontevedra over the five days of competition, set to decide the continental champions.
 
Defenders of the title, Pedro Campos' "Bribon 500" (Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo), and Swiss team, Reinard Suhner's "Nivola" (S.V. Bottighofen) begin the competition as favorites, although both teams are aware after the racing held in the Spanish class championships at the weekend that it is no easy task.
 
 The opening ceremony sees the start of the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans
On Monday 13th September, Sanxenxo and the Real Club Náutico celebrated the opening ceremony of the event, in the presences of Ildefonso de la Campa, Administration Director for the Xacobeo, Telmo Martín, Mayor of Sanxenxo, Daniel Arosa, Social Services, Sports and Youth Councilor for Sanxenxo Town Hall, Jesús Quintáns, Manager of Nauta Sanxenxo, and Pedro Campos, President of the host club.  
 
The act began with the Sanxenxo Music Band, which performed in the club facilities, from the pontoon to the RCNS, where they were received by the authorities. The welcome act was held at the village, in the presence of each of the participating Xacobeo 6mR Europeans 2021 teams.
 
In his welcome speech, Telmo Martin addressed the teams,

"We are delighted to have you with us and to host the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans. Sanxenxo has a long maritime history; we have been living from the sea for three thousand years and have an important story to tell in the organization of nautical events.
I would like to invite you to enjoy our local area this week: get to know the beaches, countryside, gastronomy, rich heritage and especially the people. Sanxenxo will always be your home. Welcome and the very best of luck to you all."
 
The first races of the Xacobeo 6mR Europeans 2021 begin at 12:00 h on Tuesday.
