The Fareast 42C catamaran has emerged the 2023 winner in the Electric Sailboats category at the prestigious Gustave Trouvé Awards for Excellence in Electric Boats and Boating, affectionately known as 'The Gussies'.

The streamlined 12.5m Simonis Voogd Design multihull only made its world debut at the Shanghai International Boat Show in March, and has now emerged the winner from a shortlist of nine contenders in the Electric Sailboats category after judging by an international panel of 25 electric boat experts and a public vote.

The Gussies are the only international boating awards to focus exclusively on electric boats and boating, and are named after the prolific 19th century French inventor Gustave Trouvé.

Meanwhile the Fareast 42C is the only yacht brand from China to win the international award this year, and is both the company's and country's first ever pure electric offshore catamaran. At the same time it also marks a strategic move by Fareast into the field of electric boats.

Its design emphasises space utilisation, with an open deck at the bow and stern, and plenty of leisure space alongside two cabins, two recreational areas and two bathrooms, a layout that makes it suitable for private boat owners as well as the international catamaran charter market. An open version is also available in addition to the standard configuration.

The Fareast 42C also has the option of a complete ship electric propulsion system customised by ePropulsion Technology, which includes the power, battery, propulsion and control systems.

The Fareast-ePropulsion 42C catamaran can sail for up to 20 hours and 100 nautical miles at cruising speed in full electric propulsion mode, allowing it to meet the needs of a wide range of sailing, training and commercial operations.

Construction of the first Fareast 42C will be completed in the first half of 2024, with several already on order through the second half of the year.

The Fareast 42C will be on display in Europe at the Dusseldorf Boat Show in Germany in January 2024. Also on show will be the Olympic single-handed Laser dinghy following Fareast's success in winning production approval from the International Laser Class Association (ILCA) and World Sailing.

The Laser holds a special place in Chinese sport after racer Xu Lijia won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics and was the flag bearer for China at the closing ceremony.

Fareast looks forward to welcoming both media and customers at their Dusseldorf Boat Show booth located in Hall 15, 15E34.
