North Sails unveils the Ferrari Hypersail Replica Collection in Milan
In the midst of Fashion Week, at the North Sails showroom in central Milan, Ferrari Hypersail was presented from a less familiar angle than the purely sailing perspective: the transfer of experience developed for the 100-foot ocean-going monohull into technical apparel and, from there, into the new Replica Collection. Moderated by Sky Sport journalist and commentator Giovanni Bruno, the event featured Luca Delfino, Chief Commercial Officer of North Technology Group, Enrico Voltolini, who leads the Ferrari Hypersail team, and Daria Martelli, Head of Design, North Sails Apparel.
North Sails is a partner of Ferrari Hypersail for both sails and the crew’s technical apparel under a multi-year agreement. The collection presented in Milan is intended to take beyond the strictly competitive arena some of the solutions developed for those who will live and work aboard an ocean-going full foiler. As Delfino explained, that process stems from the very nature of the relationship with Ferrari: “We did not want to be simply suppliers, but to take on the responsibility of being partners”.
Voltolini, in particular, brought the discussion back to the practical realities of life on board. Ferrari Hypersail is an extreme platform, with a double-skin mainsail, wing mast, complex control systems and a crew required to cope with high physical loads, watch systems, night manoeuvres and long periods in demanding conditions. Much of the work will take place inside the cockpit, but the sailors will alternate time on the pedestals with going on deck for manoeuvres and sail changes. “Getting dressed, eating and sleeping are three fundamental aspects,” Voltolini noted, underlining how clothing also becomes part of the crew’s ability to maintain efficiency and concentration over time.

Those requirements first led to the technical range developed for the team, whose newly announced additions are Giulia Conti and Shannon Falcone, and subsequently to the Replica Collection. Daria Martelli described Ferrari Hypersail as an “innovation laboratory” for the North Sails Apparel design team: the collection draws on visual and material elements from the project, from carbon fibre and 3Di sails to Giallo Fly, but above all seeks to translate into everyday garments some of the principles developed for sailing, including light weight, protection, freedom of movement and reduced bulk.
The most technical piece in the range is the GP Aero Jacket 2.0 Hypersail, built with a three-layer construction, fully taped seams, a 10K waterproof membrane and four-way stretch fabric. The collection also includes the Sailor Jacket Hypersail, made from recycled fabric with taped seams, and the Nautex Softshell Jacket, which is windproof and water-repellent. Rather than simply reproducing the clothing worn on board, the project uses the Ferrari Hypersail collaboration as a testing ground for materials, construction methods and details that can also be transferred to urban apparel.
The link with the sailing programme also extends to the photographic campaign, shot in the Ferrari Wind Tunnel in Maranello, one of the facilities where aerodynamic solutions feeding into the Hypersail project are developed and validated. The North Sails for Ferrari Hypersail Replica Collection has been on sale since 22 September through the North Sails website, the brand’s flagship stores and a selection of multi-brand boutiques.
