PressMare presents a Special issue celebrating 40 years of Mangusta, one of the brands that has most profoundly shaped the evolution of high-performance yachts and, more broadly, Italian yacht building.

The file can be downloaded via this link or from the link at the bottom of this page.

A journey spanning four decades, tracing the history, vision and industrial choices that have enabled the Overmarine Group brand to establish itself on international markets as a benchmark for style, technology and reliability.

From the brand’s foundation in 1985, with the intuition to rethink the concept of the open yacht, through to the development of the Mangusta Open, GranSport and Oceano lines, this Special retraces the milestones of a path defined by continuous innovation, the ability to anticipate owners’ needs and a constant technological evolution involving hull design, propulsion systems, materials and construction processes.

Significant space is devoted to Giuseppe Balducci, founder of the Overmarine Group and a key figure in a unique era of Italian yachting, as well as to the generational transition that has seen Maurizio and Katia Balducci, now joined by the third generation, leading a family business capable of combining industrial scale, strong identity and a global vision.

The Special, curated by Andrea Mancini, delves into the models that have defined Mangusta’s DNA: from the Mangusta 80, which gave rise to the Maxi Open concept, to the Mangusta 165, a technological laboratory and symbol of advanced performance research, through to the introduction of steel and aluminium yachts with the Oceano and GranSport lines. Today, the Viareggio-based shipyard’s range comprises superyachts designed to combine performance—understood not only as pure speed—but also long range and maximum efficiency, enabling owners to face the sea with safety and enjoyment.

Not only product, but also method: the feature explores Mangusta’s approach to innovation, based on carefully considered engineering choices, targeted use of materials, CFD studies, towing tank testing and the continuous acquisition of data from yachts in operation, alongside a growing focus on environmental sustainability and certified production processes.

This PressMare Special forms part of an editorial series dedicated to Italian yachting excellence and serves as a valuable reference for understanding how Mangusta has succeeded, over forty years, in transforming an entrepreneurial vision into a global brand, while remaining true to the values that have defined its success.
