2017 Youth Sailing World Championship: Day 1

After a glittering opening ceremony, two days of practice racing and boat work, it's time for the 374 competitors from 60 nations to hit the water and go racing!

All nine fleets will sail on the opening day of racing and it will be the first opportunity for competitors to test themselves against their rivals as the fight for the ultimate honour in youth sailing.

Sanya's clear blue skies were replaced with cloud cover on Monday morning. The breeze for the day ahead is forecast to be light early on but building, slowly, as the day goes on. A 6 knot easterly breeze will build to 7-8 with gusts of up to 10 knots.
