After yesterday's spectacular racing in 20 knots of breeze and sunshine, day 5 of the 2026 iQFOiL Youth & Junior European Championships brought a completely different challenge. Cloudy skies and unstable winds made for a difficult day on the waters off Varkiza, where the Race Committee worked hard to make the most of the available conditions. While the Men and Boys were unable to complete any racing, the Women and Girls managed to add three races to their scorecards, producing some important changes in the standings ahead of the final day of qualification.

After an initial wait ashore, the sailors were sent onto the water, but the constantly shifting breeze made racing particularly challenging. On the Women's racecourse, both fleets initially completed one Course Race, before the U19 Women moved to Upwind Sprint and the U17 Girls switched to Downwind Slalom as conditions deteriorated. Both fleets then completed one additional Slalom race, bringing the day's total to three races each before the wind finally gave out.

In the U19 Women's fleet, reigning World Champion Taisiia Stopchenko (RUS) strengthened her grip on the championship with another outstanding performance. The World Champion added two race wins to her scorecard, extending her overall advantage from just seven points yesterday to an impressive 36-point lead. Julia Przybyl (POL) remains in second place, while local sailor Danai Giannouli (GRE) delivered a strong performance to break into the provisional top three, giving the Greek supporters plenty to celebrate on home waters.

Another standout performer was Rüya Uğurlu (TUR), who also claimed two race victories today. The Turkish sailor now sits in sixth overall, just seven points behind second-placed Przybyl, underlining how close the battle remains behind the championship leader. With the Medal Series approaching, Uğurlu is positioning herself as a serious contender and will be looking to carry today's momentum into the decisive stages of the competition.

In the U17 Girls' fleet, Türkiye continues to dominate the leaderboard. Reigning World Champion Parla Kabasakal (TUR) remains firmly in control at the top, while compatriot Ece Melis Baş (TUR) moved into second overall, reinforcing the Turkish presence at the front of the fleet.

Behind them, the Polish sailors occupying fourth through sixth places put up a determined fight to challenge the provisional podium. However, a series of black flag disqualifications complicated their efforts, preventing them from breaking into the top three despite their strong performances on the water. With the standings still close, there is plenty left to fight for before the Medal Series.

For the U19 Men and U17 Boys, the day proved frustrating. Despite heading onto the water and waiting for suitable conditions, the unstable breeze never allowed racing to get underway, leaving their overall standings unchanged from yesterday. Artun Şenol (TUR) therefore continues to lead the U19 Men, while František Burda (CZE) remains at the top of the U17 Boys' fleet, where the leading three sailors are separated by just one point.

With five days of competition now completed, the 2026 iQFOiL Youth & Junior European Championships are approaching their decisive phase. Tomorrow will determine the top ten sailors in each fleet who will advance to the Medal Series, making every remaining race crucial for those still fighting to secure their place.
