Joystick for sailing boats. XENTA: world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019

XENTA, has extensive experience in the development of integrated control systems for motor yachts. Approximately, 4.000 units installed to date. Its core developments will be on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019 - from 10 to 15 September. XENTA will also announce the launch of its technology in the world of sailing. In addition to intelligent steering systems, electronic throttles for engine control and actuation systems for rudder control, going forward it will be possible to install the XENTA Joystick system on sailing boats of any size, with any shape of hull, made of any construction material. Multihulls included.

XENTA Joystick, which can be quickly installed both on new boats and retrofitted on existing boats, provides owner-operators and skippers the safest, most intuitive and easy to use maneuvering system. In Docking Mode, the points of propulsion are managed autonomously translating the movements of the Joystick to the boat allowing those in command of the boat to concentrate on the maneuver, while the XENTA system assumes the task of defining the amount of thrust of engine and thrusters, to make the boat move precisely where you want. Through the XENTA Joystick, it is possible to approach in any direction, but also to perform more complex maneuvers and is easily achievable using just two fingers.

An option that can be requested with the XENTA Joystick system is the DP function, i.e. Dynamic Positioning. With a state-of-the-art GPS integrated with a dedicated high-precision inertial platform to amplify its effectiveness, XENTA Dynamic Positioning allows the pilot to anchor electronically, keeping the boat stationary at the touch of a button. The system is also effective in the presence of wind or currents that tend to change the position of the boat, very useful when you have to wait to refuel, or the opening of a bridge and in all those situations where it is impossible or too complex to drop the anchor.

The system uses a digital network derived from the aeronautical sector, Fly by Wire, which was then also utilized in the automotive sector as a Drive by Wire, redesigned by XENTA with purposefully for the nautical market developing it into Pilot by Wire.

Thanks to this digital network that uses CAN-bus technology – eliminating the need for traditional cable controls - both the engine controls and those of the bow and stern thruster are wired and communicate with each other while being managed by a processor. The XENTA Joystick, acts as an interface between man and boat, and thanks to the XENTA software, the processor manages the thrust of the engine acceleration, integrating them with the direction by applying proper levels of thrust to the propellers. Everything takes place in real time and with an effectiveness that gives high security to those who govern.

XENTA will be pleased to teach you more about the operation and use of the XENTA Joystick for sailing boats at its stand PAN 356 - located at the Vieux Port of the Cannes Yachting Festival 2019.
