The Formula Wing European Championship gets underway today in Naples, with racing set to continue through Sunday 12 April. Maddalena Spanu, an athlete from the YCCS Young Azzurra programme, is among the competitors taking part.

"I’m very excited, last year was magical and today I’m taking to the water more determined than ever to retain this title. The forecast is currently for light winds, but I’ll give it my all to bring this title home no matter what.” commented Maddalena.

Racing opens today, 8 April, and will see the women’s fleet of over 20 athletes competing against the spectacular backdrop of the city’s Castel dell’Ovo until Sunday, 12 April. The programme includes four long-distance races on the first day of the event, followed by six short races each day until Saturday, 11 April. On Sunday’s final day of the event, the Medal Series will decide the winner of the European Championship title in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The total fleet of male and female competitors counts over 100 athletes and promises high standards and thrilling action on the water.
