Luna Rossa adopts Siemens Xcelerator for America’s Cup yacht design
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli will utilize the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to speed up the development of the ultimate AC75 America’s Cup yacht
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli welcomes Siemens Digital Industries Software as software and services provider for the 37th America's Cup. Thanks to the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio the team will accelerate the development and the optimization of the new AC75 boat to be sailed in Barcelona in 2024.
«The Siemens Xcelerator portfolio provides critical tools to Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli that allow the team to design, analyze and evaluate all aspects of the boat’s fluid-dynamic and hydraulics performance», said Matteo Ledri, Head of CFD, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team. «Using Siemens’ software, the hull, foils, rudder and sails can be analyzed as part of the digital twin, to understand how each surface responds to the changes in the project parameters, thus speeding up our work”.
The Siemens Xcelerator portfolio comprises the Simcenter™ STAR CCM+™ software, to virtually design and analyze hull, foils, rudder and sails to better understand how the complex hydrodynamics of the hydrofoil respond to the changes in the project parameters. Simcenter Amesim™ software, on the other hand, is used to simulate all on-board hydraulic lines and optimize performance, an essential aspect given that on-board hydraulic power for the aero systems is generated by four cyclors using pedal power.
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli will also benefit from the usage of the Xcelerator Share, a cloud-based collaboration platform to manage increased design complexity, improve manufacturing repeatability across the growing number of parts undergoing thousands of engineering changes per year, both in and out of racing season.
The agreement also includes the Siemens NX design platform, which Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli decided to acquire in order to start evaluating its potential with a view to its future introduction.
