53rd SAR Princesa Sofia Trophy 2024: a celebration of sails and waves

The 53rd Princesa Sofia Trophy kicked off today in Palma de Mallorca, with a day full of wind - around 20/25 knots - and waves that forced the large number of athletes to have a particularly intense and demanding day from a athletic point of view. Not all disciplines took to the water due to sea conditions. Today the following raced: 470 Mix, Male and Female Formulakite, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7.

Mixed Dinghy (470 MIX)

After two events the Germans Winkel-Winkel were in the lead, the British Heathcote-Grube 2nd, the Spanish Xammar-Brugman 3rd.

The Italians in the top twenty-five positions: The Italians in the race: 17th Giacomo Ferrari (Navy) – Alessandra Dubbini (Guardia di Finanza), 21st Elena Berta (Air Force) – Bruno Festo (LNI Mandello del Lario)

Men's Skiff (49er)

After three events, the Brazilian Lobo is in the lead, the Singaporean Maeder is 2nd, the Austrian Bontus is 3rd

Women's Kite (Formula Kite W)

After two events, the American Moroz is in the lead, the Australian Whitehead is 2nd, the Chinese Chen is 3rd.

The only Italian competing is Maggie Pescetto (Yacht Club Italiano) 4th

Women's Dinghy (ILCA 6)

After two events the Belgian Plasschaert is in the lead, the German Anderssohn is 2nd, the Italian Chiara Benini Floriani is 3rd.

The Italians in the top twenty positions: 3rd Chiara Benini Floriani (Fiamme Gialle), 13th Silvia Zennaro (Fiamme Gialle).

Men's Dinghy (ILCA 7)

After two events, the German Buhl was first, the British Beckett 2nd, the Norwegian Tomasgaard 3rd.

The Italians in the top twenty positions: 8th Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini (Fiamme Oro), 19th Dimitri Peroni (Fiamme Gialle)

Men's Windsurfing (iQFOiL M)

With more than 800 teams and 1,100 sailors of 75 nationalities, ten disciplines and seven regatta areas, the 2024 SAR Princesa Sofia Trophy promises to be one of the most important events of the season also in the Olympic year.

 

Chiara Benini Floriani: “Today we had a wind of around 25 knots and I took part in two races, placing myself in the top five in both. I'm quite happy with the result, even if the starts weren't the best. However, I had good speed, both upwind and downwind. Two more regattas await us tomorrow. We are still at the beginning"
