Going into the final of five days of racing, Gwen Fragomen’s Botin 44 Interlodge IV has had nearly a perfect scorecard of wins in 9 races, and with only one race left this team is assured of victory in the ORC Class at the inaugural Southernmost Regatta held this week in Key West, Florida.

After a hiatus of three years since the last Key West Race Week, the event this year was organized at an intentially modest scale of less than 50 entries divided into 2 one-design classes and one ORC class racing on one course area, and a TP52 class racing with ORC ratings on their own course area.

The concept seems to have been successful, with plenty of enthusiasm for racing at this classic winter venue and close racing enjoyed in most classes in the week’s prevailing conditions of moderate to windy breezes. The ORC classes used Triple Number Time on Time scoring throughout the week of racing on windward-leeward courses. Runner-up in the ORC class was Eric Lopez del Valle’s Farr 395 Wasabi from up the coast in St Petersburg, site of next month’s venue for more ORC inshore racing in Florida at the St Pete NOOD regatta.
