The Settimana delle Bocche returns to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s racing calendar
The regatta, which in 1972 marked the beginning of the YCCS’s international sailing activity, will be held again from 26 April to 1 May 2027, in the year in which the Porto Cervo club celebrates the 60th anniversary of its foundation.
The return of the event will bring back to the waters of the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena Archipelago one of the regattas that helped shape the history of offshore sailing in the Mediterranean, as well as the beginnings of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s international sporting activity. The Settimana delle Bocche was conceived with the aim of creating a week of racing in Sardinia inspired by the model of Cowes Week, bringing together in Porto Cervo some of the most representative yachts and leading figures on the Mediterranean racing scene at the time. Among those taking part in the inaugural 1972 edition were Giorgio Falck with Guia, Admiral Agostino Straulino with Kerkyra, Gian Marco Moratti and Nicolò Donà dalle Rose with Viva, Serena Zaffagni with Mabelle, Commendatore Monzino with Mait II, and American Bill Ficker at the helm of Charisma, one of the most competitive yachts on the international racing circuit at the time.
“The Settimana delle Bocche holds a special significance for the Club. In 1972 it was the first international competition organised by the YCCS and marked the beginning of a journey that, over the years, has established the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda as one of the leading reference points in international sailing. Bringing it back today means celebrating our history, enhancing our sporting heritage and offering yacht owners, sailors and enthusiasts an event that also looks to the future,” commented YCCS Commodore Andrea Recordati.
The 2027 edition will be raced under the ORC rating system. The Preliminary Notice of Race will be published on the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda website in October and will set out the eligibility criteria for participating yachts. The racing programme will alternate windward-leeward races with a long coastal race, using the racecourses of the Costa Smeralda and the La Maddalena Archipelago.
The return of the Settimana delle Bocche will be one of the events marking the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s 60th anniversary. Founded in 1967, the Club is thus bringing back one of the regattas that helped forge its sporting identity and establish Porto Cervo as one of the world’s leading yacht-racing venues.
