Garmin has introduced the new LiveScope 2 series, the latest generation of its live-scanning sonar technology for recreational fishing. The range includes three new transducers designed to deliver improved image quality, extended operating range and a simplified installation process by eliminating the need for a dedicated black box.

According to the company, the new series provides a 20% increase in image resolution compared with the previous generation, together with reduced noise and improved target separation, allowing anglers to distinguish fish, lures and underwater structures more clearly in real time. Wider scanning angles are available in Forward, Down and Perspective modes, while faster processing and reduced latency contribute to smoother live sonar performance.

The lineup consists of three models tailored to different applications. The LiveScope 2 (LVS44) succeeds the previous LiveScope Plus, offering a maximum operating range of up to 76 metres, representing a 25% increase over the previous model. The LiveScope 2 HD (LVS42HD) is designed for ranges up to 38 metres and provides higher image detail at shorter distances. The LiveScope 2 HD Ice-Fishing version is intended for ice fishing and features a shorter, more flexible cable designed for low-temperature environments, along with a single combined power and network cable.

A key update concerns installation. The new transducers connect directly to compatible Garmin chartplotters and the vessel's power supply, removing the need for a separate black box and reducing the number of required components.

The transducers also incorporate a sensor that automatically stops sonar transmission when lifted out of the water, together with an integrated temperature sensor. Each model is supplied with mounting hardware for trolling motors and an adjustable Perspective mode bracket, allowing users to change configurations without tools.

The LiveScope 2 series is compatible with the Garmin Marine ecosystem, including accessories such as the Spy Pole motorised transducer mount and the GT360 UHD transducer, enabling users to combine live sonar with 360-degree scanning around the vessel.

The LiveScope 2 (LVS44) and LiveScope 2 HD (LVS42HD) will be available from 10 July, with recommended retail prices of €2,199.99 and €2,299.99 respectively, VAT included.
