The Tomorrow.Blue Economy World Congress, held from November 4-6, 2025, at Fira de Barcelona, will explore the potential of the blue economy for sustainable development. Over 100 experts will discuss the marine ecosystem's role in socio-economic growth.
The event is part of the Smart City Expo World Congress and will feature 120 national and international experts. It aims to promote the blue economy, which seeks to transform marine resources into an economic powerhouse under a sustainable and regenerative approach. The congress will include 42 sessions across three major events: Smart Ports: Piers of the Future, Global Blue Finance Summit, and Sustainable Ocean Summit.
Smart Ports: Piers of the Future, promoted by the Port of Barcelona, will see participation from representatives of nine European, North American, and Asian ports. Topics will include cybersecurity, less polluting port operations, and the integration of ports into city development. Key figures such as José Alberto Carbonell, President of the Port of Barcelona, and Jens Meier, CEO of the Port of Hamburg, will be present.
The Global Blue Finance Summit will focus on innovation, bluetech, and marine systems as areas of investment. Speakers will include Olivier Raybaud from SWEN Blue Capital and Dale Galvin from the Global Fund for Coral Reefs Investment Fund. The summit will address public and private investment opportunities in marine and coastal systems.
The Sustainable Ocean Summit will cover topics like aquaculture, circularity, and green shipping. It will feature speakers such as Jason Giffen from the Port of San Diego and Aisha Stenning from the Ellen McArthur Foundation. The summit aims to foster corporate ocean responsibility for a sustainable blue economy.
The Ocean Innovation Hub will showcase projects from 30 emerging companies specializing in the blue economy. Managed by Oceanovation, these companies will present solutions such as sensorized decontamination barriers and floating wind platforms. Participants come from countries including China, Spain, and the United States.
According to the United Nations, the blue economy contributes 1.5 trillion dollars to the global economy and generates over 30 million jobs. The EU Blue Economy Report states that it accounts for more than 1.6% of the GDP of the European Union, employing over 4.8 million people.
