The most eagerly awaited event of the year has begun in Sanxenxo. On Monday, 13th June at 20:00h, the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo hosted the opening ceremony of the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds, an event which begins on Tuesday with a total of 40 teams represented by 15 nationalities. The fleet, who have already come head-to-head over the weekend in the Rey Juan Carlos I El Corte Inglés Master Regatta, prepares to battle once again over the next five days for the greatly esteemed 6 Metre class world title.

The opening act began at 20:00h with a parade from the Escuela Naval de Marín's music band around the facilities of the port from the dock to the RCNS, where they were received by Telmo Martín, Mayor of Sanxenxo, Ildefonso de la Campa, Administration Director of the Xacobeo, Daniel Arosa, Social Services, Sports and Youth counsellor of Sanxenxo Town Hall, and Pedro Campos, President of the organizing club.

Following the parade, the village hosted a reception for all the participating teams in the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds 2022.

Telmo Martín welcomed the crews,
"We are delighted to be hosting you and hope that our hospitality and gastronomy will help you do your very best in the competition.
Exactly 988 days ago, on 28th September 2019, King Juan Carlos, who we particularly miss today, presented me with a special flag that the Mayor of the Finnish city of Hanko had awarded him as testimony that Sanxenxo was to be the next organizing city of the World Championships. It is now just for me to wish you all the very best of luck, and may you take with you a wonderful memory of Sanxenxo," he concluded.

The action begins tomorrow
On Tuesday 14th June at 13:00h, the Race Committee will sound the starting gun for the first race of eight programmed for the next five days of racing in the Xacobeo 6mR Worlds.

The two title defenders, Bribon 500 in the Classics, and Junior in the Open, begin the event as two of the favourite teams to claim the world title once again, however both are aware that the fleet will not make it easy. The winners of this weekend's Rey Juan Carlos I El Corte Inglés Máster Regatta, Rumanian team Essentia and Swiss team Momo, are two of the teams aiming for the top title, along with Violeta Álvarez's Stella, Portuguese teams Scoundrel One and Seljm and the British team Battlecry among others in the open division. In the Classics division some of the favourites are Finnish team Ossi Paija's Astrée III, Alicia Freire's Titia and French team Louis Heckly's Dix Août.
