From Waste to Biomethanol: Sardinia Bets on Sustainable Boating

In Olbia, a project is taking shape that combines waste management, energy production and sustainable boating. The Spiritu Santu biodigester, developed by CIPNES Gallura together with the Politecnico di Milano and with the involvement of Sanlorenzo, aims to transform OFMSW into biomethane and subsequently into biomethanol for the nautical sector as well. Sardinia, boating industry on the rise: tourism and manufacturing riding high

The 2025 edition of the boating industry report, curated by Il Sole 24 Ore, was presented in Milan, along with data on superyacht traffic along the Gallura coastline, provided by CIPNES Gallura and the Northern Sardinia Maritime Directorate: +23% in July 2025 alone. Intervention by Regional Industry Councillor, Hon. Emanuele Cani
