World Sailing to launch first Inclusive Development Programme
World Sailing is set to deliver its first Para Inclusive Development Programme (IDP) in the Caribbean, with Antigua and Barbuda confirmed as the host for June 2026.
The programme will be delivered in partnership with the National Sailing Academy and Sailability Antigua, with the support of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda. This marks a significant milestone in expanding access to sailing across the region and creating new opportunities for sailors with disabilities.
This landmark initiative represents a major step forward for Para Inclusive Sailing in the Caribbean Basin, bringing together international expertise and local leadership to establish a sustainable foundation for future development.
The week-long programme will combine on-water coaching, skills development, and racing, providing a structured introduction to Para Inclusive Sailing. The programme will culminate in an international regatta, offering participants the opportunity to apply their learning in a competitive environment and further strengthening regional engagement.
The Antigua IDP forms part of World Sailing’s wider global strategy to increase participation, strengthen pathways, and support emerging nations in developing sustainable Para Inclusive sailing programmes.
Hannah Stodel, Para Sailing Manager at World Sailing, said, “This is a really important moment for Para Inclusive Sailing. The Caribbean represents a huge opportunity for growth, and Antigua provides an incredible platform to introduce and develop the sport in a meaningful and sustainable way.
“The IDP is about more than just sailing - it’s about creating access, building confidence, and supporting sailors at the start of their journey. We are seeing increasing demand globally, and this programme is a direct response to that.”

With the support of the National Sailing Academy and the wider community, we want this to be the beginning of something that grows well beyond this first event.”
The programme is expected to attract participants from across the Caribbean and beyond, with a focus on supporting both new and developing sailors, as well as providing opportunities for coaches and volunteers to build experience in inclusive delivery.
Alongside on-water activity, the programme will also focus on knowledge sharing and local capacity building, ensuring a lasting legacy for inclusive sailing within the region.
World Sailing will be reaching out to Member National Authorities (MNAs) and regional stakeholders in the coming weeks to support participation and encourage engagement from across the global sailing community.
