The ocean racing trimarans competed today in the third and last race of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge. At 14.03 30” local time (18.03 UTC, 19.03 Italian time), Maserati Multi 70 crossed the finish line off Simpson Bay, 26 seconds before the American competitor Argo, which arrived at 14.03 56” local time.

At 11 local time (15 UTC, 16 Italian time) Maserati Multi 70 and Argo, both in the ocean racing class, set sail from Grand Case, Saint Martin, to North-West. The 63’ trimaran Shockwave didn’t participate in the race because of the damages to the boom suffered the previous day.

The two 70’s started racing on the 47-mile course: they turned around Blowing Rock and crossed the Anguilla Channel towards a mark near Port Galisbay, they then went back for the last time to Blowing Rock, from which they set course towards Fourchue Island, before going back to the finish line off Simpson Bay.

Giovanni Soldini and his Team crossed first the finish line with an elapsed time of 3 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds, followed shortly after by their competitor Argo, which finished the race in 3 hours, 30 minutes and 56 seconds.

Giovanni Soldini, a few minutes after crossing the finish line, explained: “It was a great race, with a wind typical of this area: 20-25 knots with many wind shifts. We started well, we took the lead right away and we stayed in first place the whole time. At some point we were able to gain a nice advantage over Argo, but on the last leg they had a favourable growing wind and they caught up with us: they arrived less than 30 seconds after us! We’re very happy about today’s race and we’re ready for the RORC Caribbean 600!”
