26 hours 8 minutes 10 seconds, this was the time it took for the100’ Arca SGR maxi of Guido and Adalberto Miani, with Furio Benussi as skipper and the crew including talents such as Vittorio Bissaro, Andrea Caracci, Nicolas Brezzi, Stefano Spangaro (boat captain), Lorenzo Bressani, Andrea Ballico and many others who contributed to the enterprise. “Victory in real-time was our aim,” said Guido Miani at the finish, “but it was in doubt right to the last miles with Magic Carpet Cubed, which was very close all through the race. We sailed well and is far possible, we were a bit slow in the first part of the race with rather light winds, but a fantastic final leg paid us back. After rounding the Giraglia we touched peaks of more than 21 kn. Setting a record in these conditions was unthinkable, but the boat showed all her potential against tough rivals.”

Arca SGR rounded the Giraglia islet at 7:01 this morning 15 minutes ahead of Lindsay Owen-Jones’s Magic Carpet Cubed. At 8:44 Leopard 3 also rounded, completing the trio that had led the race from the start. The weather forecast was accurate, with a south-westerly freshening during the day and giving a good boost to the trailing yachts which, at the time of writing, are heading north at more than 10 kn.

Here are the first 10 to round the Giraglia
07:01 Arca
07:16 Magic Carpet
08:44 Leopard 3
10:06 Capricorno
10:13 Pendragon VI
10:17 Anywave Safilens
11:12 @robas
12:45 Leaps and Bounds 2
12:45 Inti 3
12:46 Wild Joe

Most of the fleet are expected to arrive between into the night and tomorrow, with the headquarters of the Yacht Club Italiano ready 24 hours a day to welcome all the participants in this fine race, offering focaccia and drinks while strictly respecting the Covid regulations. It will take several hours to draw up the rankings in compensated time, but we can point to excellent overall performances from the Frenchman Gerard Logel’s IRC52 @robas among the IRCs (the largest group with 74 starters) and from Francesco Zucchi’s Swan 42 Voloira IV in the ORC class.
