With the prizegiving for the French races in the big Rolex party on the Ponche beach for the more than two thousand participants in the Rolex Giraglia 2018, the French chapter of the Italo-Italienne regatta comes to an end. There was a look of great satisfaction in the eyes of the crews as they came back into port, with the Gulf of Saint Tropez giving its best after the muggy day yesterday, bidding goodbye to the Giraglia fleet with a magnificent day of wind and sun (up to 20 kn along the coast, and more than 25 kn for the windward/leeward races off the beaches).
What they’re waiting for now is the start gun at midday tomorrow. 222 yachts will head out for the Giraglia rock and then sail back to Genoa.
Here are the results of the inshore races:
Today maximum concentration on racing strategies for the long race tomorrow and an eye on the weather models that give moderate wind for the start but dropping towards Corsica. Yet again, the Corsican rock will prove a fascinating and tricky subject for tacticians and strategists.
