AllSmoke', the Custom SW RP90, has had a wonderfully successful start to the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo, by winning the first race in the Maxi Racer/ Cruiser Division. The crew worked hard in the build-up to the regatta, ensuring that the race preparation left nothing to chance and ‘AllSmoke’ finished just under 18 minutes ahead of the second boat in the fleet on corrected time.  The second yacht in the fleet was ‘Vera’, formerly ‘My Song’, who has arrived fresh from winning the Palermo to Monte Carlo Race in the IRC Division.

The team had a great start, and the Southern Wind SW-RP90 performed well upwind over the 30 or so mile race course which took the fleet down through ‘Bomb Alley’, heading round the Island of La Maddalena. From there the course took them round the small island and outlying rocks of Monaci, then back to the south of the island of Caprera and to the finish. In the latter stages of the race, the fleet went through a transitional phase in the wind, and ‘AllSmoke’ came through with flying colours, taking the best route through the patch of calm.

Mark Sadler, the tactician on ‘AllSmoke’ summarised the race, “We came out of the blocks on fire from a good start, with the boat performing well upwind and extending from the fleet. Downwind we were hitting our targets. We are absolutely delighted for the owner that all the hard work has paid off and that ‘AllSmoke’ has achieved such a great result today.”

‘AllSmoke’ came from the drawing board of Reichel Pugh Yacht Design and Nauta Design and she is racing with a new 3Di Raw race sail inventory from North Sails.
