After a day of racing in brilliant sunshine, the debutant SW-RP 90 Custom AllSmoke is in the lead of the Trophy, followed by SW82 Grande Orazio and SW105 Kiboko Tres.

The XIV Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy, raced within the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta and organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, got off to a shimmering start today. The yachts racing in the Trophy waited for breeze that did not disappoint while the yachts participating in the Rendezvous took full advantage of the clear skies and sparkling seas to enjoy a day in the Costa Smeralda’s beautiful scenery. The debutant All Smoke wins the day at her first time in a regatta.

The yachts participating in the Trophy waited until 1:30 PM for the breeze to fill in and build to 8/10 knots. Principal Race Officer Peter Craig sent the Performance Class, which includes all of the yachts racing in the SWS Trophy, along a route that started off Porto Cervo and rounded Soffi Island towards the Isola delle Bisce to dip in towards the Pevero Gulf and finish off Porto Cervo.

South African AC sailor Mark Sadler, who was racing aboard the custom SW-RP 90 AllSmoke, designed by Reichel Pugh Yacht Design and Nauta Design, had these words: “This was AllSmoke’s regatta debut and I think it was a really good first race for her. It was good to start in lighter air because that way we saw the potential in the boat and what we’ll need to do to improve. But there’s huge amount of potential here, it’s got stunning looks, it’s light weight and we’ll improve throughout the week as we learn the yacht.”

The second debutant at the event was the SW105 Kiboko Tres. which got third place. David Madrazo, Crew Boss, had these words: “Today the boat was feeling very good. It’s our first time racing her and we’ll get to know her better in the upcoming days, but the race made me happy because the boat is sailing really well.”

While the yachts that are participating in the Rendezvous enjoyed a lazy sail and a long lunch under the sun, the flasgship SW110 Thalima’s owner sent her yacht out to cruise with her Captain and guests while she took advantage of the occasion to race as a guest aboard Kiboko Tres. “It was breath taking, I loved the experience,” she said. And who knows if we won’t see her racing again soon.
