SW94 Windfall dominates "Les Voiles de Saint Barth"

For the third year in a row, the SW94 Windfall achieved a first place in the Maxi 2 Class at “Les Voiles de Saint Barth Richard Mille Regatta” and a well-deserved second place overall.
 
This 94-footer designed by Reichel Pugh and Nauta Design notched up three wins in five races, placing her at the top of her class, ahead of worthy competitors such as the 35m Sojana, designed by Farr and winner of Class B, Les Mademoiselles des Mers at the recent St Barth Bucket Regatta.  She was also placed ahead of the two Swan 80s Selene and Umiko.

SW94 Windfall’s passionate and proud owner, Michael Cotter, couldn’t hide his happiness, but humbly attributed much of their success to luck. “We got lucky several times; we had a great tussle with Sojana all week. Twice coming into the finish, we were touch-and-go with them, but we managed to get around her.” 

Alexia Barrier, sailing on board Sojana said the competition was tight between the two boats. “It’s impressive to see how Windfall has progressed in recent years and we’ve enjoyed battling with them on the race track”.

Cotter’s close-knit and professional crew certainly contributed to Windfall’s success, as the New Zealander former America’s Cup Cameron Appleton declares: “Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of leading the Windfall team onboard. We’ve achieved great success as the boat can be pushed and raced hard; nowadays a 94 footer yacht can be raced as a normal boat. Windfall has always been reliable and having a consistent crew of Irish lads who did a fantastic job”.

The 70 yachts participating in the series, were divided into nine classes according to their technical features, with record numbers of entries in both the Multihull and Spinnaker Classes.

Complementing the action on the water, Les Voiles de Saint Barth Richard Mille hosted an impressive social scene with a pop-up “Nikki Beach” event, with live music and DJ sets.Our congratulations go to Michael Cotter and his crew – a very well deserved and popular win!
