From 18 to 27 October Sanlorenzo, one of the world’s leading producers of yachtsand superyachts, will take part in the XXI Florence Biennale – International Exhibition of Contemporary Art, in an exhibition organized by ADI Associazione per il Disegno Industrialein the new Design pavilion of this important contemporary art event with a history of over twenty years.

Founded in 1997 by the artist Pasquale Celona with his brother Piero, and now directed by the young Jacopo Celona, the Florence Biennale represents a unique opportunity for the city in the context of contemporary art.During the days of the Biennale, Florence becomes a virtual showcase of current art production on a worldwide scale, bringing together the principal forms of artistic expression.
The 21st edition of the Florence Biennale, with the support of the Italian Commission for UNESCO, ICOMOS, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Tuscany Region, the City of Florence and Confindustria Toscana, will offer a variegated program of events, including conferences, performances, workshopsand educational initiatives, gravitating around the theme of this edition connected with thecelebrations for the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci: “Ars et Ingenium ‐ a tribute to Leonardo da Vinci.”

ADI and the Florence Biennale pay homage to the genius of Leonardo in an exhibition set up inside the Spadolini Pavilion of Fortezza da Basso in Florence, to honor his legacy through the excellence of design in Tuscany acknowledged by the Compasso d’Oro, the prestigious award that for over 60 years has indicated the best designers and best Italian manufacturers of design to the general public and sector specialists, also through the annual Index.

Sanlorenzo, founded in 1958 near Florence and now with facilities in Ameglia, La Spezia, Viareggio and Massa, will be a part of the exhibition itinerary with models of its yachts included in the ADIDesign Index 2018 and 2019,thus eligible as candidates for the upcoming Compasso d'Oro ADI 2020: the SX88crossover yacht with interiors by Piero Lissoni, the 460Exp superyacht with interior design by AntonioCitterio Patricia Viel, and the SL102Asymmetric, the world’s first asymmetrical motoryacht.

The approach taken by Piero Lissoni for the design of the interiors of the SX88 is absolutely innovative, formulating an open space on a yacht with a length of 88 feet for the very first time. Lissoni has reinterpreted the concept of on-board space, developing a single, continuous area from bow to stern, with an open kitchen adjacent to the dining area, seamlessly followed by the living area in a context of indoor-outdoor fluidity, thanks to large glazings facing the sea.A “social” yacht that offers a new way of living on board.

The 460Exp superyacht by Sanlorenzo, with interiors by Citterio Viel, reinvents the concept of the exploration boat. One key feature of the project is undoubtedly the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. The designers have attempted to bring the design of the hull into the boat, conserving a direct relationship between the naval architecture and the rooms. The project sets out to reveal the construction of the yacht in its true nature. The ecru fabrics combined with details in leather, navy and brushed steel created a sophisticated, comfortable and welcoming seagoing atmosphere.

The world’s first asymmetrical motoryacht, SL102Asymmetricis a daring, highly advanced design. The desire to make an asymmetrical yacht is the result of very precise design thinking rooted in the DNA of the company, and its intrinsic ability to redesign the internal spaces of a boat.
The idea developed thanks to a combination of multiple creative minds: from an original concept by Chris Bangle, one of the world’s best known and highly acclaimed car designer, who in over 15 years of collaboration with BMW has revolutionized the history of the brand, to the in-house technicians and designers of Sanlorenzo, all the way to the studio Zuccon International Project. With the aim of achieving improved use of internal spaces and better communication with the outside world, SL102Asymmetric rethinks the conventional layout of a yacht, placing a single gangway on the starboard side and eliminating the one on the port side, which is shifted to the roof of the structure,in a novel asymmetrical arrangement that makes it possible to recoup about 10 square meters of area for the internal spaces.

Three different projects that narrate the unique approach of Sanlorenzo, its strong ties with the world of design and the work done by the company to propose new ways of living on the sea, opening up new perspectives for the world of yachting.
