Sailing boat

08/02/2019 - 17:19

Swan 65 project is a modern performance cruising yacht perfectly conceived for safe, comfortable cruising with family and friends, but equally capable of being specified as a top-level racer. Designed by Germán Frers, this mid-sized yacht enhances Nautor’s existing “performance bluewater” line of yachts, following the same design philosophy and parameters as her larger sister, the Swan 78.

With its clever deck layout, the Swan 65 is suitable to be managed by a family crew with or without a professional skipper.  The deck ergonomics also allow the Swan 65 to be raced efficiently with a full competitive crew.  The Swan 65 is designed for dynamic sailors looking for high-quality, performance and flexibility with no compromise on comfort or safety. This multipurpose yacht is perfectly equipped for regattas, bluewater cruising or a leisure stopover, with the possibility to upgrade racing options and personalize the interior layout.

Design Concept

With pen put on paper, Germán Frers created a concept of the Swan 65, taking inspiration from the Sparkman & Stephens project of 1972: beautiful, trustworthy, comfortable and fast.

“We have strived to conserve her softness and harmony of the earlier relatives avoiding hard unruly behavior. She is new, clean and modern, without being tied up to any short-lived fashion.”- states Germán Frers.

New characteristics & advantages
Hull and sail

Following the last trends set by ocean racers, the Swan 65 belongs to the latest Frers cruiser/racer hull generation.  It has more power and more volume.

Performance and aesthetics

The highly prismatic bow profile allows for smooth wave riding, while the powerful volumes aft ensure flying speeds downwind and low drag in light air, all characteristics that ensure the ultimate performance. The elegant proportions of the Swan 65 are characterized by Frers’s signature sheer, while a high stern and a low freeboard makes her a true Swan of the bluewater breeding.

Stability and safety

Her hull offers great stability and comfort at all speeds. The volumes are designed to make her well-balanced and maintain a steady heel angle, while the appendages incorporate the latest technologies in hydrodynamic studies.

Various draft options

Offered in three different drafts, the keel, with its steel blade and lead bulb, contributes to outstanding stability. Optionally, the telescopic lifting keel 2.75-4.20 m with no interior intrusion is available.

Efficiency and control

The rudder layout is designed with high performance in mind. The twin blades reduce draft and guarantee complete control and balance under heel, simplifying yacht maneuvers.

All-around sailing ability and racing efficiency

Each design parameter of Swan 65 is tailored to enable the yacht to meet the needs of her owner. The latest generation sail plan offers all the advantages of the most recent developments, such as mast positioning aft with a J that is longer than the boom length, in addition to the further advantage of the structural bowsprit. The mast is integrated into the coachroof for a more advantageous look and interior space. The yacht will sail well even in the lightest conditions and the crew will have the freedom to hoist various foresails whether in a regatta competition or on an offshore cruise. The optional square top main sail and running stays provide further racing efficiency.

Deck
“The deck has modern design, uncluttered surfaces and straightforward, simple solutions to sail handling and life at sea.”- Germán Frers

New coachroof

The 360 degree windows coachroof is the latest evolution of Frers design, combining the curved lines and multifaceted surfaces of the “S” (Semi-raised Saloon) and FD (Flush Deck) beauty and elegance.

Two cockpit configurations

The cockpit is organized with the typical Swan layout. The guest area is located in the forward section and can be shaded by the large sprayhood and bimini. This area can be offered in two configurations: open and sporty, with seamless seating and full length table; or cozy and protected, with surrounding seats and an integrated sunbathing area.

Comfortable handling

The central area of the cockpit is optimized for shorthanded sailing. With five powered, same size winches positioned close to the two helm stations, both a limited crew of two and a complete racing team have enough space to handle the yacht.

Optimized storage spaces

The Swan 65 features a large opening transom that accesses the tender garage, which is large enough to accommodate tenders of up to 2.80 mt. The forepeak, accessed through a large hatchway, features an extremely deep and large sail locker that at can optionally be converted into crew quarters with separate heads.

Lifestyle features

Swan 65 has all the comforts a sailing yacht offers. As mentioned above, Swan 65 includes a guest dedicated cockpit with extra-long benches and large central table (or transversal sunbathing area on OA version). She also has several sunbathing areas: on platform, aft cockpit, coachroof top and forward. The transom reveals a bathing platform that unfolds to provide direct contact with the sea.

Interior
By offering diverse interior layout solutions, Swan 65 confirms its title as one of the most flexible yachts on the market. The finish in European Oak and the elegant design, well thought out for long voyages, are touches of the high Nautor standards that have made Swans world-famous. The Swan 65 has also attempted to create the most comfortable living and sleeping areas possible, emphasizing and embracing a simple, yet elegant design and purpose for yacht racing, where speed characteristics play a significant role.

Exclusive layouts

Interiors can be organized with two different layouts, with opposite positions for the cabins: Owner Forward and Owner Aft. Additionally, various options for bunk, crew quarters and navigation arrangement are available. In both versions two alternative solutions are provided for crew quarters: at the bow, or forward of the galley. Both include separate heads.

Spacious and clever saloon

Swan 65 features a five-meter-long saloon with a raised panoramic living area and dining to port and lounge to starboard. The saloon connects directly to the galley and navigation station. Recessed beneath the flooring in the deepest part of the hull, systems and tanks remain quick and easy to access. A dinette or, optionally, a traditional chart table can also be offered.

The OF version advantages

In this version, the master cabin is located in the most accessible, yet still quietest area of the boat. This room has everything needed for ultimate comfort: an island central king-size bed, desk/vanity, walk-in closet, and impressive shower compartment. The raised saloon takes full advantage of the panoramic windows. The twin aft guest cabins are offered in two layouts: two single or one double bunk, each cabin is featured with convertible berths and a separate shower.

The OA version advantages

This version is ideal for lovers of long distance cruising. Stable and protected under sail, the owner’s cabin’s full beam width features ample space and several stowage facilities. While still offering ample stowing capacity, the forepeak can be converted into a crew cabin.
