This marks the second consecutive race that Great Circle–Squid has been named official weather provider of the Volvo Ocean Race, often described as the ultimate test of a team.
Thanks to on-going research and development in marine weather and routing solutions, Great Circle-Squid will provide the best weather forecast with high-resolution, world-wide coverage to each team and to the race organisation.
Safety and performance will be the main focus for the meteorological solutions provided daily to the race management team, which are then shared with each of the competitors in the 8-month race around the world.
“Being relied on to provide accurate weather forecasting for one of the biggest and most challenging yacht races in the world is a responsibility we take very seriously,” said Gérald Bibot, the CEO of Great Circle–Squid.
“Great Circle represents a trusted, expert source of weather and climate science for the Volvo Ocean Race,” said Gonzalo Infante Meteorology and Race Control Manager. “As a weather routing professional, I am delighted to have such an amount of information to assist in making the best race management decisions. Their models and tools are a valuable asset for our organization.”
The Volvo Ocean Race started on Sunday 22 October, taking the seven competing teams to 12 stopover ports over eight months as they race around the world, from the start port of the Alicante, Spain to the finish at the end of June in The Hague, Netherlands.
