Lerici, Italy (June 23, 2018) - The second day of racing in Lerici at the 2018 Melges 20 World League, European Division was a perfect sailing day. With a consistent 12 knots of pressure, the fantastic Dario Levi at the helm of FREMITO D'ARJA has taken over the event lead.

The first race of the day saw a close, very tight race between Filippo Pacinotti's BRONTOLO and Achille Onorato's MASCALZONE LATINO, JR. The aggression between the two was intense and ultimately came down to a few meters from the finish line where Onorato put Pacinotti in check, and took the win. Corinthian Marco Giannini's SIDERVAL had a great race to finish third.

"We are in a much better, possible position than yesterday," says Malcolm Page, tactician aboard Onorato's MASCALZONE LATINO, JR. "We need to keep up the great concentration and excellent teamwork. This is not the easiest race course, and certainly not the easiest to interpret. It requires the perfect balance between areas of better pressure and those that favor the corner. Tomorrow, we will certainly have to keep an eye on all our opponents because the level is rising in the regatta and, for our part, we will try to race to the maximum."

In Race Four of the series (second of the day), a fierce battle ensued between Russian contingents Alexander Novoselov's VICTOR and Vladimir Prosikhin's NIKA, but they both ended up bowing to Levi. He reminded the fleet that he can still be great by taking the win with Novoselov coming second. Italian newbie Stefano Visintin aboard KINDAKO claimed third.

The final round of racing ended up in the hands of Alexander Ezhkov's PIROGOVO, followed with a terrific finish by Onorato in second, Visintin once again surged to take third.

Alexander Mikhaylik's ALEX TEAM continues to lead the Corinthian Division, followed by Giannini in second. Marina Kaverzina's MARUSSIA currently stands third.

For Sunday, the fleet anticipates three more races in which the completion of Race Six will bring on the call for each team to discard their worst score. It will be the day the winner of Lerici will be crowned.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, and Melges Europe in collaboration with Lerici Coast, La Lince, Consorzio Nautico La Spezia, Motorvela, Cantieri Canaletti and Comune di Lerici.
