2018 Melges 20 World League: Freides' Pacific Yankee Steadfast in Scarlino

Marina di Scarlino, Italy (May 26, 2018) - Light and unstable air only allowed for one race on Day Two at the 2018 Melges 20 World League, European Edition in Scarlino hosted by Marina di Scarlino, and still Drew Freides' PACIFIC YANKEE has a very tight grip on the overall lead.

The current World Champion team, masterfully led by Freides has significantly increased his first place advantage, special thanks to a second place finish in Race Four. He followed race winner Achille Onorato's MASCALZONE LATINO JR. across the finish line, which made for great rivalry between the supervising English tacticians - Paul Goodison on PACIFIC YANKEE and Malcolm Page for MASCALZONE.

"Today, we raced well. We had a good start that allowed us to extend our lead almost immediately, then we were free to make our own tactical choices, and sail the race we wanted to race," said Page. "This is a tough race course, and determining what will work best in these light air conditions is critical. We left behind our bad day yesterday, and set out today with a goal to win, and that's just what we did."

Poland's Krzysztof Krempec at the helm of MAG TINY (Tomislav Basic, tactician) managed to hold on to second place overall, but now pays a duty of twelve points to the Americans.

Filippo Pacinotti's BRONTOLO was undermined by Carlo Alberini's CALVI NETWORK (Karlo Hmeljak, tactican) some 20-24 points behind the leader. Russia's Vladimir Prosikhin aboard NIKA (Michele Ivaldi, tactician) surged in the results to now occupy fifth place.

It was a "carbon-copy' day in a positive sense for Corinthian Marco Giannini's SIDERVAL. With today's seventh place finish in Race Four, he continues to defend the top, all-amatuer division lead, thus keeping Russia's Marina Kaverina on MARUSSIA distanced by sixteen points.

The Melges World League is supported by Helly Hansen, Garmin Marine, North Sails, Toremar, Lavazza, and Melges Europe in collaboration with Club Nautico Scarlino, Rigoni di Asiago, Resort Baia Scarlino and Scarlino Yacht Service.

Melges World League has signed and adopts the code of ethics of the Charta Smerarlda strongly promoting the values of One Ocean Foundation.
