Pacinotti's Brontolo Leads After Three Races at Melges 20 World League in Forio d'Ischia

Forio d'Ischia, Italy (April 21, 2018) - After the lack of breeze prevented any racing on Day One of the 2018 Melges 20 World League taking place in Forio d'Ischia, Italy, thanks to much better conditions the thirty-strong fleet completed three races.

Italy's Filippo Pacinotti at the helm of BRONTOLO (tactician Manu Weiller) set the pace, hammering the scoreboard with an impressive 1-2-3 scoreline, assuming the event overall lead position. With these results, Pacinotti created a 'vacuum' where a group of top five teams are now separated by four points. Second overall Carlo Alberini's CALVI NETWORK (tactician Karlo Hmeljak from Slovenia) trails first place by twelve points.

"When you have days like this, it is easy to comment," said Pacinotti post racing. "We are happy because we sailed well. Manu made perfect tactical choices and, the crew handled the boat extremely well. As we look to tomorrow, we still have a long and extremely complicated path to navigate in a very competitive fleet."

"All in all, we enjoyed the day very much, but there is still so much to do and more training to be completed. For me, though personally it was great to return to Melges Racing and the family, which we are so proud to be a part of, as we have been for many seasons in the Melges 32."

In third place and currently seated in first place on the Melges 20 World League Ranking, Russia's Vladimir Prosikhin's NIKA carries equal points to fourth overall Rob Wilber sailing CINGHIALE. Achille Onorato's MASCALZONE LATINO JR., with Malcolm Page as tactician rounds out the top five.

The top Corinthian after three races in Florio d'Ischia is occupied by Victor Novoselov from Russia at the helm of QUANTUM.

The first warning for Sunday is 11.00 (there will be no warning given after 15.00).
