Italian brand Bluegame’s new yacht has been designed as a fun and functional model that is also comfortable and stylish. And a key element of the 62ft sport utility yacht is the performance and maneuverability provided by Volvo Penta IPS.

“Bluegame yachts are for true sea-lovers and water-sport connoisseurs,” says Luca Santella, co-founder and designer of Bluegame. “The BG62 hull is designed specifically for the best sea-handling in any weather condition, and the open stern deck matches customers’ needs for many activities.

“In terms of the propulsion, we require excellent fuel consumption and efficiency, low noise and vibration, and reduced dimensions. Volvo Penta IPS fits these aspects very well, and there is another particular quality of the system that makes it perfect for the BG62 – maneuverability: Bluegame yachts are mainly operated by owners and their families, without the help of a captain or crew, and the joystick driving and docking system with IPS makes life easier and safer for them.”

A love of the sea and passion for design

Bluegame was co-founded in 2005 by Luca Santella, an Olympic sailor who competed in Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992, and has held world and European championships in several sailing classes. His love of the sea is matched by his passion for design, and he has been a design development manager for the Sanlorenzo shipyard for several years. In 2018, Bluegame was incorporated into Sanlorenzo, a company with six decades of yacht-building heritage, based in Viareggio, north east Italy; further creative input for Bluegame is provided by Zuccon International Project, a superyacht and civil engineering design company.

The BG62 is the larger model in Bluegame’s sport utility range, which also includes the 42ft BG42. The BG62 can be installed with either twin Volvo Penta D13-IPS1200 or twin D13-IPS1350. The BG42 is installed with twin Volvo Penta D6-IPS600. “We have been very pleased with IPS in both models,” says Santella. “We’ve seen great results for performance during sea trials and we’re looking forward to getting feedback from clients. We have a very important plan ahead of us at Bluegame for which I foresee four new models in the next three years; one model will complete the sport utility range; and three other models will form a completely new project range for Bluegame – and they all will use Volvo Penta IPS.”
