Nauta Yachts: a very successful Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta

Organized by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in the waters of Porto Cervo, Sardinia, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta was a very successful event, offering a spectacular show with hard-fought races assured by three thrilling fleet starts over four. 

The fleet of some of the world’s most beautiful performance superyachts represented the main players in the sailing superyacht industry.

This year the XIV Southern Wind Rendezvous and Trophy was raced within the LPSY Regatta, and gathered in Porto Cervo a stunning mini-fleet of 8 Southern Winds with design by Nauta. The Southern Wind Trophy was won by SW82 Grande Orazio followed by SW105 Kiboko Tres and SW-RP90 All Smoke.

MY SONG, the Nauta Design and Reichel Pugh collaboration, was sorely missed and would have been the queen of the event, both on and off the race course as she was last year.  

Also missed was our great friend Willy Persico, the founder of Southern Wind Shipyard who sadly passed away last year. In his memory Pier Luigi Loro Piana created the Willy Persico Trophy to celebrate the yacht that best represents Willy’s love of living life on the water to the full. Marcus Blackmore, the Owner of the SW82 AMMONITE, won the award this year, after having cruised half way around the world to arrive in Sardinia to attend the LPSY Regatta, thus showing to fully share the same philosophy on life and sailing that Willy Persico held.

Both Mr. Blackmore and Mr. Florio, Owner of the top-placed Southern Wind yacht Grande Orazio, dedicated their achievements to Willy, remembering him at the prize giving ceremony with fond and touching words.

Nauta Design relationship with Southern Wind Shipyard started 20 years ago, since then 40 yachts, over 30 above 90 footer have been built by Southern Wind out of Nauta project.

We thus want to take this occasion to thank Willy. We will always remember him and will continue to dedicate our utmost efforts to realizing his dream of creating fast, timelessly elegant and seaworthy luxury yachts in the years to come.
