Made in Italy does it better

Beautiful and beautifully made – that is Made in Italy in a nutshell. A philosophy brilliantly reflected in the work of the superb SMEs that are the backbone of Italian manufacturing. Most are family firms in which a combination of generations of experience and a gradual introduction of technology have produced a mind-set open to innovation as well as to breaking down barriers to creativity and new markets which in many instances are now worldwide.

Amer Yacht and F.lli Razeto & Casareto, finalists at The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2018, are two such companies. Businesses of excellence in a nautical sector of excellence: industrial in terms of their organisation and mentality but artisanal because it takes skilled craftsman hands to execute every detail of every product.
Until online voting closes on May 16, two of their Italian-made products will be in contention for the awards sponsored by the English design and lifestyle magazine, Design et All, which has a special yacht and personal jet section.

The Amer 110 Unique – which can be voted for the “Power Yacht 25 - 40 Metres” category – was launched in August 2017 for a Russian owner. In September 2017, she won the “Most Innovative” category at the World Yacht Trophies at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes during the Cannes Yachting Festival.
Amer Yachts – which is part of the Permare Group – joined forces with Volvo Penta to take a radical future-forward approach. As a result, in 2017, the Amer 110 became the world’s first pleasure yacht to sport four Volvo Penta IPS engines. This unique set-up cuts fuel consumption, vibration and noise, delivering a genuinely superior standard on onboard comfort. The owner also asked for the yacht’s interior décor to be a modern take on Art Nouveau, using the Art Deco movement’s signature techniques and materials but adapting them for modern nautical use.

F.lli Razeto Casareto’s SWIM – which can be voted for in the “Architectural Hardware” category – is a limited edition luminous sculpted door handle custom made in crystal for Majesty Yachts. The SWIM door handle was inspired by the Free Go multifunctional handle range with interchangeable grips, particularly the Free Go CULT, a sculptural brass door handle. Made after a brass model sculpted by Giangi Razeto, its design takes its inspiration from the way water flows on metal but also mimics the body shape of a mermaid.

Artistic aspects aside, what makes the SWIM series unique every time is the dimmable lighting system inside the handle grip which allows it to send different messages depending on the colour of the light emitted. This technical feature is important from a safety perspective too – it is self-powered and so can indicate an exit in blackouts or smoke-filled rooms aboard. It is also an artistically-pleasing, high-tech décor accessory that can interface with the superyacht’s onboard domotics system. Changing the colour of the handle grip can indicate a request for service or give information to onboard staff. It can also be used to add an extra emphasis or flourish to the various ambiences that can be created aboard.
