Luna Rossa has partnered with Fastweb—an Italian leader in the telecommunications sector—in preparation for the 38th America’s Cup, which will take place in Naples in 2027.
As Technical Partner and Official Sponsor, Fastweb will deploy dedicated 5G coverage in the Gulf of Cagliari and the Gulf of Naples, using 5G “network slicing” technology. This enables customized coverage and performance even in complex operational environments. The solution will allow the team at sea to transmit critical information to shore in near real time, including telemetry data during races and video during training sessions. The technology will ensure low latency and high transmission capacity across the entire coverage area.
The project will be implemented in the Gulf of Cagliari by May 2026, in time for the first preliminary race. Subsequently, before the summer, the network will also be deployed in the Gulf of Naples—the same area that will host the 38th edition of the America’s Cup.
«We are very pleased to have Fastweb as our technical partner for the 38th America’s Cup», said Gilberto Nobili, Technology and Operations Director of Luna Rossa. «Fastweb is a leading Italian telecommunications company and having them by our side will allow us to optimize data transmission and communications between the boat and our technical offices. Being able to rely on a powerful and reliable network, as well as the expertise of a leading brand like Fastweb, is crucial in a complex and highly technological challenge such as the America’s Cup».
«Participation in one of the most ambitious sporting projects ever undertaken in Italy stems from a shared vision: to deliver excellence by providing advanced network technologies such as dedicated 5G and deep expertise», said Max Gasparroni, Chief Technology & Security Officer of Fastweb + Vodafone. «Through this collaboration, we will provide Luna Rossa with cutting-edge tools for performance analysis, real-time communication, and the optimization of every phase of navigation, helping to create an ecosystem where technology, sport, and human intelligence come together to reach new levels of performance. This partnership confirms our commitment to innovation and the country’s digital transformation».
