Seen from above, the building features the full outline of the yacht drawn across its roof, with the bow pointing towards the hangar exit. Above the entrance, a technical front view of the bow shows how the hull is positioned inside. This is the new base of Ferrari Hypersail, the 100-foot foiling monohull project, which has chosen Livorno and facilities provided by Azimut Yachts for its operational hub. The announcement was made in Maranello on 1 October 2026.
The facility will bring together the shore-based and on-water activities linked to the next stages of development and sea trials. It will house the offices of the project team, engineers and shore team, as well as gyms and fitness areas, laboratories for hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems, and 3D-printing facilities. It will also serve as a meeting point for the project's partners, stakeholders and guests.
Ferrari highlights two key advantages offered by Livorno. The first is direct access to the Tyrrhenian Sea, with a wide range of sea and weather conditions suitable for a structured and continuous testing programme. The second is its proximity to Maranello, facilitating close interaction with Ferrari's engineering and design departments involved in the technological development of the project.
"Having such a strategically located facility on the Tyrrhenian Sea, suitable both for technical and athletic preparation and for sea trials, while at the same time being close to Maranello, gives us the ideal conditions to further accelerate the innovation process," said Enrico Voltolini, Project Leader of Ferrari Hypersail.
The base was designed by the Ferrari Design Studio headed by Flavio Manzoni, Chief Design Officer. Its colour scheme reflects the yacht's livery: Grigio Hypersail and Giallo Fly alternate across a clean architectural composition featuring two different types of glazing, with glass for the office areas and polycarbonate panels for the spaces housing the yacht.
"This path of research and experimentation, taken beyond the usual boundaries of our design field, has reinforced our belief that design is not merely a form of aesthetic expression, but a tool capable of generating innovation through a virtuous cross-fertilisation between different disciplines," said Manzoni.
The new base forms part of a broader collaboration agreement between Ferrari Hypersail and Azimut Yachts. As Technical Partner, Azimut Yachts will develop a custom Azimut Fly 72 tow boat. During the initial foiling tests, the boat will support the Ferrari Hypersail hull; it will subsequently provide assistance and monitoring during sailing trials and will also serve as a hospitality boat.
"The custom Azimut Fly 72 tow boat, which will be developed together with our new partner Azimut Yachts, represents a first concrete example of collaboration and operational synergy between the two companies," said Angelo Pesci, Chief Purchasing & Quality Officer at Ferrari.
