AkzoNobel and The Hinckley Company have reached 50 years of collaboration in the use of Awlgrip products as the premium topcoat finish across Hinckley's yards. Hinckley, founded in Maine in 1928 and approaching its centenary, uses Awlgrip products in both new boat construction and its service yard network.
Over the course of the partnership, the two companies have developed a standardised paint programme designed to align application processes and ensure consistent results across Hinckley's yard network. The programme was initially launched across the service yards, which care for yachts of all makes and models along the US eastern seaboard, and has since expanded into new construction.
Products in use include Awlgrip HDT (High-Definition Technology). The programme is designed to ensure that finish quality remains consistent regardless of which yard carries out the work.
The collaboration is documented in the second episode of Hinckley's behind-the-scenes video series, titled "Chasing the Spray", which shows the painting process inside the yards.
"They are not just a supplier to us; they're a partner who understands our standards and helps us meet them, every single time," said Scott Bryant, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at The Hinckley Company. "From the technical expertise they bring to our yards to the innovation they've delivered through products like HDT, Awlgrip gives our applicators the very best tools to do what they do. Their commitment to delivering consistently high standards matters enormously to us, and to our customers."
"When you see a Hinckley on the water with an Awlgrip finish, you can see and feel the difference. It's been a privilege to work alongside their teams for so many years, and to play a role in building a paint program that's genuinely raised the standard across their business," said Ned Jones, Awlgrip Sales Representative at AkzoNobel.
