Charlie Dalin, a prominent figure in offshore sailing from Le Havre, France, has been awarded the 2025 Magnus Olsson Prize. This recognition highlights his substantial impact on the sport over nearly two decades.

Dalin's career in sailing began at a young age, and he has since become a key player in the field. He graduated as a naval architect from the University of Southampton in 2006 and has combined his technical skills with competitive prowess. His early professional experience included working on the design team for the VO70 Ericsson 4, which won the 2008-09 Volvo Ocean Race.

In the Figaro Beneteau class, Dalin achieved five consecutive podium finishes in the Solitaire du Figaro. He later transitioned to the IMOCA circuit, securing victories in the Transat Jacques Vabre in 2015 and 2019, and a runner-up position in the 2020 Vendée Globe. His achievements also include winning the IMOCA Globe Series World Championship.

In 2023, Dalin was part of the 11th Hour Racing Team, winning the transatlantic leg of The Ocean Race. He launched a new IMOCA boat, MACIF Santé Prévoyance, and set a new Vendée Globe race record in 2024, completing the race in 64 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, and 49 seconds.

Dalin's journey has not been without challenges. He was diagnosed with a gastrointestinal stromal tumour in late 2023 but continued to compete while undergoing treatment. His resilience and determination have been widely recognized.

The Magnus Olsson Prize honors individuals who demonstrate excellence and innovation in sailing. Previous recipients include notable sailors such as Franck Cammas and Sir Ben Ainslie. Dalin expressed his gratitude for the award, acknowledging the support of his family and the sailing community.

In addition to the prize, scholarships are awarded to young Swedish sailors. This year, Cornelia Baldock Frost and Erik Norlén were selected as recipients. Both expressed their appreciation and motivation to pursue further achievements in sailing.

The 2026 Magnus Olsson Prize Ceremony will take place in Stockholm, celebrating Dalin and the scholarship winners. The event continues to honor the legacy of Magnus Olsson, a legendary Swedish sailor.
