Rome has its own maritime salon: Wisdomless — between nautical charts, tattoos and signature mixology

A few days ago we visited Wisdomless, in the heart of Rome: a club that brings together antique nautical charts, fine tattoo artistry and a mixology inspired by the most iconic boats of the America’s Cup. An original setting rich in cultural references, worth discovering both for lovers of the sea and history and for anyone seeking unusual places and quality cocktails.

There is the scent of the sea and the spirit of seafaring culture inside the club on Via Sora, housed in the historic guest quarters of Palazzo Boncompagni Duchi di Sora, once home to the Accademia dei Quirini and located a few steps from Piazza Navona.

It is a place of encounter and discovery, where art, history and curiosity merge into a sensory experience that invites visitors to travel—both real and imaginary—along the routes of the sea and through time.

Founded by Vincenzo Simone Saitta together with his brother Francesco and Graziano Paventi, united by a passion for navigation and the arts, the club is a maritime Wunderkammer that reinterprets the spirit of Anglo-Saxon lodges and the homes of Grand Tour collectors.

Among wood panelling and velvet, marble busts and exotic animals, ancient naval documents and period nautical charts, every room—visible or hidden—tells a different story, all waiting to be uncovered.

The atmosphere is that of a timeless retreat where culture and lightness coexist. Visitors are invited to pause, observe and let themselves be carried away by the charm of the details and by the sound of the sea evoked by the walls.

Among the collections stand original documents of the Maritime Administration of the Holy See, 19th-century navigation instruments, models of historic sailing ships and votive vessels from ships, ports and arsenals of the Mediterranean.

Each piece is the result of years of research by Vincenzo, a Deck Officer who has sailed—and continues to travel—the world in search of the living memory of seafaring traditions.

The club also hosts a Tattoo Studio dedicated to the ancient tradition of maritime tattooing, which originated in the 15th century among European sailors and spread worldwide during the colonial era. Here, some of the best Italian and international tattoo artists reinterpret the symbolism of the sea—anchors, ships, compasses, mermaids—transforming it into contemporary art on the skin.

Completing the experience is a signature cocktail bar whose creations draw inspiration from maritime imagery, from the briny and botanical notes of ocean routes to the spiced aromas of Eastern ports. Each drink is conceived as a liquid story, an invitation to travel.

The club on Via Sora is more than a venue: it is a place of culture and conviviality, where the sea becomes a symbol of freedom, discovery and connection between different worlds. A hidden treasure in the heart of Rome, to be enjoyed with lightness, curiosity and a spirit of adventure.
