A new chapter in European sprint powerboat racing begins in 2026 with the launch of the Formula 60 Electric Championship, the first fully electric national racing series built on the proven Formula 4 race boat platform. Molabo and Protenergies, members of the development team for the successful pilot project, are now inviting additional race teams to join as Founding Teams.
The electrified vessel uses the existing standardized F4 and replaces the combustion engine with Molabo’s high-performance 48 V electric propulsion system. The system includes a 50 kW ARIES electric drive and an ultra-lightweight, swappable marine battery bank optimized for sprint race performance.
The championship will debut under the French national federation (FFM) with four confirmed race weekends scheduled across France:
Albi — June 7/8
Mâcon — June 27/28
Chalon-sur-Saône — August 29/30
Caen — September 5/6
The initiative has been developed in alignment with key industry stakeholders, including the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and Mercury Racing. International expansion under the UIM framework is planned for the 2027 race season.
Teams will be recognized as Founding Members of the Formula 60 Electric Class and will participate in developing competitive and technical parameters for the new class. Founding Teams will benefit from comprehensive technical support as well as enhanced visibility across media and sponsor communications, creating new commercial and partnership opportunities. Formula 60 Electric offers a high-performance entry-level class that’s aligned with many sponsors’ environmental goals while preserving the speed, intensity, and accessibility of F4 competition.
“The transition to electric is technically straightforward,” said Adrian Patzak, CCO, Molabo. “With the championship launch confirmed, the inaugural Formula 60 Electric grid is now being finalized, with only a limited number of team entries still available. Technical briefings and integration planning sessions will be scheduled in the coming weeks. We invite teams interested in learning more to contact racing@molabo.com before March 29, 2026.”
