World Sailing is pleased to confirm the dates for the 2027 World Sailing Championships, setting up what promises to be one of the most exciting years in the sport’s history.
Bringing together all 10 Olympic sailing disciplines alongside Para Inclusive Sailing events, the 2027 World Sailing Championships will be staged across two venues. Fortaleza, Brazil, will host the first regatta of the championships from 15-23 January, before the action moves to Gdynia, Poland, from 22 July to 1 August.
The World Sailing Championships will take place in a year already packed with iconic moments for the sport. The Ocean Race will start in Alicante, Spain, in January and conclude in Amaala, Saudi Arabia in June, while The America’s Cup will be contested in Naples in July. Together, and with Sail GP running through the whole of 2027, these events offer fans an unprecedented year of elite sailing on the global stage.
World Sailing President Quanhai Li said: “The 2027 World Sailing Championships will be a landmark moment for our sport.
“Hosted by Fortaleza and Gdynia, athletes will compete in exceptional sailing conditions while demonstrating the global reach and inclusivity of sailing.
“Combined with The Ocean Race and The America’s Cup in the same year, 2027 will be an extraordinary celebration for athletes, fans and communities around the world.”
Fortaleza, the coastal capital of Ceará, will stage the one-person events - Men’s and Women’s Windsurfing, Kite, Dinghy - and Para Inclusive categories.
The event has the support of the Brazilian Federal Government, through the Ministry of Sport, and the Municipality of Fortaleza, through the Municipal Secretariat of Sport and Leisure of Fortaleza and the Municipal Secretariat of Tourism of Fortaleza, and will be organised by the Brazilian Sailing Confederation (CBVela), in partnership with the Sailing and Motor Federation of the State of Ceará (FVMEC).
The two-person events - Men’s and Women’s Skiff, Mixed Dinghy, and Mixed Multihull – as well as Para Inclusive events will then take centre stage in Gdynia on the Baltic coast, as part of the annual Gdynia Sailing Days festival.
The Polish Yachting Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland, the Pomeranian Voivodship, and the City of Gdynia and numerous partners, will lead the organisation of this major international celebration of sailing.
